Schools, churches or simply open fields have become the shelter for thousands of refugees whose houses have either been flooded or run over by the riverflow. Food is scarce in these shelters and diseases are soon to appear promosing to take its toll on children. |
Water is contaminated and the water system is heavily damaged, hence the danger of a epidemic like colera. There is hunger at these shelters. Basic food is needed, particularly powdered milk for children together with clothes and even pschological attention is of primary urgence due to the after shock that they still are living. |
The needs are such that people throw themselves over the volunteers who bring them donations. pictures from La Tribuna and La Prensa newspapers |
